Its Sunday and today I made Sticky Honey Cinnamon Buns. I had spotted this recipe in the book and man it looked delicious. So being Sunday, sunny and warm, it was the perfect day for making bread. I love making bread. Such a simple combination of ingredients, flour, yeast and water (actually in this case milk and honey – what a cliché almost!), but so simple and yet effective, the combination of these simple ingredients combines to make something we all love to sink our teeth into every day, warm, toasted, with melted butter. It’s a simple delight to eat and to make.

The kneading, the waiting for it to rise, the punching down and adding special ingredients to make it that special loaf. In this case, it was insane. The sticky filling included everything imaginable that was yum – honey, butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, cream and walnuts. How much better could it get. Well it did, can you believe it. Because, not only was that the filling, it was the topping and the topping caramelized to make a crunchy toffee coating with a soft luscious interior of bread.

I’m getting carried away I know, but the result of this recipe was out of this world.

I had to rush the end bit when you combined these ingredients, rolled it up and left them turned out in spirals on a tray to rise because my son was playing at the new local restaurant and we decided to go watch. He plays double bass. So while I supped a Rosé, and my daughter drank a good buzz lemon & ginger kombucha, my buns were rising! The place was lovely, fabulous menu, so we decided to stay for dinner. I I baked my buns when I got home, such fun, and a delicious dessert I might add.

Interestingly enough, that new restaurant, aside from having a fabulous jazz ensemble, great food and atmosphere, had the nicest public bathroom I have ever been in!!! Strange what you discover on a daily basis.
