I decided to do a savoury bake and team it up with making dinner, hence killing two proverbial birds.

YUM ! 🙂

Unfortunately I didn’t get started until 5.45pm so we were eating quite late but it was worth it.  The tart was amazing.  I don’t know why I don’t cook like this all the time, wait, hang on, honey roasted ham off the bone from the delicatessen, a full pot of cream and tasty cheddar cheese, I know, my waist line!  The delicious thing about this tart apart from the creamy custard cheese filling was the cheesy pastry.  There was as much cheese in the pastry as anywhere else, and it gave it a real “Cheese Straw” taste, you know the ones, from the Edmond’s cook book.

I chopped up the honey roasted ham into large chunks. The tart was note-worthily yummy.  I will make it again as long as I can stave off the guilt for using so much cream.

Fresh

I teamed it up with a fresh salad with warm roasted pumpkin and nuts, and made my favourite potato gratin https://www.annabel-langbein.com/recipes/potato-gratin-with-gruyere-and-garlic/417/from Annabel Langbeins “The Free Range Cook” which involves sliced potatoes, salt, chopped garlic, grated Gruyere or cheddar cheese and cream which are tossed to combine and baked. Delicious.

I noticed in the weekend when I was making a Lamb Roast that I had only a tiny rosemary plant in the garden.  Didn’t do me much good.  So I bought some rosemary from the supermarket and have propagated it to hopefully root and turn into plants.

This involves, taking the bottom leaves off the branch to expose the nodules, then with a sharp knife, slicing down one side of the bark.

Tomatoes discovered growing up the passion fruit trellis in the middle of winter!

This exposes the phloem layer from which the roots will grow.  Of course in an ideal world you would dip this in rooting hormone, but I just popped it into wet soil and placed it in a warm light environment, on the windowsill and will hope for the best.

Mandarin tree bearing fruit despite a little neglect :/

Plants want to grow.  I guess it’s just up to us to create the best environment for them to do so.
