Something for the fridge or pantry that you can whip up in a spare hour. It doesn’t take long, just chop, boil and done!
I love homemade plum sauce and I love making it. Plums are so cheap at the moment, so I bought a bag while I was at the supermarket and voila, had my ingredients all set to go. To make the plum sauce, you simply cut up the plums, take out the pips, then place them in a saucepan with all the ingredients listed below…

plums red wine vinegar brown sugar squeeze of lemon finely grated root ginger
I used the following ingredients:
- 750g plums
- 1 large onion chopped
- 1/2 cup soft brown sugar
- 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
- 3 tsp root ginger grated
- 3/4 cup water
- juice of half a small lemon
- 1/2 tsp Chinese five spice
- 50ml soy sauce
- 3 cloves
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- salt and pepper
- 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped (optional)
Bring to a simmer for 30 minutes pour into jars
So place all the ingredients in a large pot and simmer, stirring occasionally until the plums are broken down and the sauce has reduced and thickened. This process takes about 30 minutes. For a thinner sauce, add more water. Pour into sterilized bottles while the sauce is hot.
Yum with chicken, meat, cheese, in fact just about everything!!! 🙂
